Are our health insurance rates so high because of the lack of competition in the market?

Interesting, this an overall summery of links to analysis and other information regarding the matter – making note that the reason why our insurance rates are so high is because of a monopoly.

The study shows that in many states, 1 or 2 insurance companies hold the entire market on the industry – and thus they can jack their rates up to whatever they want for insane profit. Since there are no other competitors you either buy it, or you are **** out of luck.

As a conservative, I am absolutely against corporations holding monopolies on the markets. This is fascism folks, new small private insurers can’t surface because of the large corporations are taking over not just health care but everything else. Small time farmers go out of business every day and most of our agriculture is controlled by big corporations who splice in chemicals, poisons, and put fish, rat, possum whatever DNA into our food to make it grow faster and withstand harsher weather.

What are your opinions on this? I never even thought about the monopoly in health care until today, and now that I read about it I believe this monopoly has a direct correlation to our high rates.
Joe you gotta admit, these Monopolies are a interesting fact.

2 of the biggest insurers merged with other smaller insurers and cover 67 million Americans. That’s 1/4th of the population, and when you add in the 45 million who don’t have insurance these folks hold a significant portion of the populace.

so i was in an accident ABOUT 4 months ago. I was hit by a drunk drive that left the scene after he hit the car i was in.

Agine i waited like 4 months after the accident to go the hospital, and to get help.
The reason i waited so long was because i am, allways very wary of lawyer, hospitals and things of that nature. It was also very cold outside during this time, and i honesly thought that my pains could have been from the weather,

but when the weather started to warm up i still had pains, so i got a lawer.

i was seeing a 2 doctors for 2 months now and was discharged.
I KNOW THE ADJUSTER GOING TO BUST MY BALLS ABOUT THE WAITING 4 MONTHS

SO MY NEW QUESTION IS IF I HAVE TO GO TO COURT WILL I WIN,

MY LAWYER SAYS THAT THE TIME SHOULD NOT MATTER BECAUSE THEY CANT PROVE THAT MY INJURIES ARE NOT FROM THE ACCIEDENT. REGUARDLESS OF THE TIME,

BOTH MY DOCTORS SAY TIME MEANS NOTHING, BEACUSE PEOPLE SOMETIMES COME A YEAR AFTER AN ACCIDENT. AND ITS MY RIGHT,
I HAVE PIP PRO

Is there a possibility of reporting an accident without increasing your auto insurance?

The situation occurred on Friday when the weather here was really nasty. Lots of rain and wind. I wouldn’t normally travel outside of my house in this weather, especially not with my kids, but I had a terminally ill family member that was going to be taken off of life support and I wanted to be at the hospital with my family. As soon as I got onto the freeway my minivan hit a large puddle in the road and started to hydroplane. There was another car that I noticed on the right side of the road that we were drifting toward, so I adjusted the wheel slightly to the left, then just as we were about to get control back, a burst of wind hit the car and spun us around so we were facing backwards. I hit the embankment, which left a small dent in my front bumper, and there are a couple scrapes down low on the passenger side of the car. Would the insurance company see me as being ‘at fault’ in this? There were at least 10 other reported accidents in a 6 hour period at this same spot.
I was travelling at 50 mph or less, well below the posted speed limit, and also below the flow of traffic. I was staying in the right hand lane to allow faster vehicles to pass, which unfortunately was where this puddle was.
Thanks for that ray of sunshine czekoskwigel. Do you happen to work for an insurance company? We were all shaken up by the incident and don’t you think that I felt guilty and at fault hearing the fear in my children’s voices? I agree that we should not have been on the road at all. I was merely asking if the insurance companies all see this as travelling ‘too fast for the conditions’ or if there is such thing as a hazardous road condition that could cause a no fault accident.

P.S. With no posted speed limit on how fast you should be travelling in bad weather and with the flow of traffic being 15 – 20 mph faster than you’re going with no one else spinning out of control, how are you to know what ‘too fast for the conditions’ is?

What if I don’t want to have Obama’s health insurance or any health insurance?

I have had health insurance through my employer for the past 10 years. It covers everyone in my family and I pay about $70 a month for it. It’s very affordable and I hope to keep it that way. The thing of it is though it is nice to have but we really haven’t used it. It has helped to pay for a few Rx’s for the kids and we do take advantage of the dental plan. My children have never had a cavity, ever. I remember when I was in my 20s I could have bought my own health insurance for about $175 a month and that’s just for me only. I thought why should I spend that much on something I will never use? But now that I am older and I have children it is good to have the coverage that I have just in case. My point being though, for those people who are young, healthy and single, can they choose not to have health insurance if they feel they just don’t need it? It seems that Obama and his gang will force this down our throats weather we want this or not.
Yes I know I can keep my present insurance but then that’s NOT the question. What if some people choose not to have any coverage. Can we say No I don’t want any health insurance. No thanks.
I am paying attention. IDIOTS!! A simple yes or no will do. What’s so hard about that.

My best friend was in a car accident a little over a week ago. He was driving to work early in the morning, slid on ice, and almost went off the road. A can came up from behind him, couldn’t stop and hit him, pushing him into a ditch. The man got out of his car, apologized, said he tried to stop. The officer came along, asked if he had any injuries and if he thinks there is damage to the front of the car. He then called a wrecker, to have him pulled out of the ditch ($75). The officer determined that noone was at fault, the accident was due to bad weather.

We obtained a copy of the police report, and it states that he was in the ditch before the car rear ended him! The officer must have been going by what the other guy said, as he did not get asked his side.

The other guys insurance is now refusing to pay for the front end damage, only for the rear bumper. They gave a check for $200, when the lowest estimate he got was more than 700!

Does this sound right to anyone?
Also, he had an appt to see his doc, as he has been experiencing pain in the back on his neck and headaches. But, had to go to the ER instead, as it was taking too long to see his doc.. He has a neck sprain/strain, and was given a neck support.

He has lost wages, where he couldn’t go into work the day of the accident..

What should he do?

The insurance company told him that the guy had first told them that he slid into him and pushed him into the ditch, then changed his story to he hit him after he was already in the ditch (my guess is th guy obtained a copy of the police report too, and decided to go with the story).

The other guys insurance company recorded my friends statement. A relative of his said he should have NEVER allowed them to record. Does it matter? He didnt see why it would matter.

Any advice would be appreciated..

I think a photo speeding camera got me.Is there any place to contact to find out?

Which type of travel insurance do I need?

I am going on a cruise in June and have purchased the air and cruise separate. The thing is that we are leaving out of NY @ 6am and arriving in Miami @ 1130am the day we have to leave for the cruise. (cannot reschedule the date we fly in) The ship leaves @4pm. With all the recent delays and cancellations of air carriers I am becoming a bit worried about 1.)trip delay that wld cause me to miss the cruise 2.) delayed or lost luggage due to a 2nd plane connection.

I would like to know if there is a specific travel insurance package that I can choose for the above. I have done some research and found that many state they will cover only if the delay is due to weather but what about if the carrier just decided to delay or cancel? Will they pay for my entire cruise if missed?

How long will it take for your auto insurance premiums to go down after and accident and a speeding ticket?

TC Fade asked:

I got into a car accident 3 years ago. Due to my car lost control during raining weather. There was no one involved but myself and the police cited me for reckless driving. That was almost 3 years ago. Recently, in October I had gotten a speeding ticket of going over 15-20. I took it upon myself to go to traffic school both times to wipeout some of the points off my driving record, but some how my insurance still upped my premiums yet again. My question is how long will it take for my premiums to go down or have the accident removed from my record? Does any one know of a good insurance company that I can transfer to due to my insurance premiums are way too high. I know of other people who have worse records but their insurance isnt at much as mine. Also I’ve had my license for 13 years and have in all that time just have been in 1 accident and 2 speeding tickets. Any help would be appreciated.

Can I find decent car insurance rate with my ever growing driving record?

I used to get a really good insurance rate with AAA because my mom had a friend who was an agent there so she loaded me up with as many discounts and perks as she could. She also didn’t check my driving record after my policy started to see all my moving violations that were being added to my record. I’m not really sure how point removal works as far as how many years and all that (yeah, I’ve been lazy on getting the details) but I have a lot of speeding violations, a wreckless driving violation (totally bullshit how I got that one), one weather related accident and my license has also been suspended twice for missing court. So, once I needed to renew my policy my insurance company denied me because of the suspensions. Now for me to get insurance I have to pay an unbelievable amount of money a month which I probably wouldn’t be able to afford. Any kind of help on this one would be great!
